As the semester went along it was time to start our our collaborative project with a mix of both Spanish and Humanities class. We decided to make our very own Farmers Market to go along with the Food Security topics that we've been studying. We were given the option to create whichever small food business we'd like in our groups. My group wanted to make our business around a type of food that was on the rise at the time so we decided to sell Cold Brew and Blondies. Cold brew being a style of coffee where the grounds are soaked in cold water for 24 hours or until the brewing process is done. As a pair to our cold brew we also decided to sell different versions of blondies which are the more unique versions of brownies. At first we wanted to sell donuts with the coffee because they are known to be a good combination, but after further discussion and price matching we found it was going to be too much of a hassle.
When we first started we where each assigned a different job to keep the progression of our business going. I was in charge of finding products and ingredients to use with the price as minimal as possible. For our cold brew I decided to reach out to different companies to see if we could get a donation of sorts in exchange for volunteering or promotion. Many companies were unable to donate to us due to legal issues. Starbucks though was willing to donate in exchange for a paper explaining our project and why we wanted a donation. Starbucks really liked what we were doing as young business owner and graciously donated some of their coffee ground too us. As all of us started getting settled into our job positions and products started getting fine tuned to perfection I really appreciated the group that I got because everyone brought new and valuable skills to the table. As the time came to start preparing our final both for selling day I couldn't of thought of anything I would've done differently. As the exhibition of our work went on, I was surprised by how much of our product we actually sold. Everyone was really loving our product, even a coffee snob from Jersey! Before the end of exhibition, all of our product was sold out leaving us with a hefty profit that eventually when back into our budget. |
