To go along with this year's food theme, Sofia (our Spanish teacher) decided to create an assignment that revolved around Spanish, food, and our family history. We all had to research and write a recipe in both english and Spanish explaining how to make one of our own family recipes. Before doing this, we had to research a lot about our food. The family recipe I chose was a Lemon Cheesecake so I had learn about the history of cheesecake and how it evolved from the Greeks. With this knowledge we wrote informative essays about each of our foods to practice MLA writing.
I found it cool learning about where one of my family's favorite dishes originated from and also being the first in my family to make a proper recipe for it. One that both the Spanish speaking side of my family can understand along with the English speaking side. Below is one of the websites I gathered information from to write the essay.

After we were all done with that it was time to move on with learning some more Spanish words that would help us to create the Spanish version of our recipe. In the start it was a bit difficult for the Spanish level one students since it was their first time writing complete sentences in Spanish. They also had to do it using "Se Impersonal" which made it that much harder. I was thankful that my mom was able to help me with a lot of the small grammar mistakes I made when working on it at home. Learning about a different form of speaking Spanish through se impersonal was challenging, but broadened my Spanish vocabulary which is what both my parents and I really want for me. Since I was able to the grasp the concept quicker than most beginners, I did my best to help them during work time in class.
I was really proud of the way it turned out since it looked very professional and proper. I also liked how we had our Spanish Cooking Videos to go along with them just incase people wanted a visual on how the dish is made. You can learn more about the Cooking Videos by going under the Spanish section of 10th grade Semester 2. Every student's Recipe followed the same guidelines making our final cookbook very professional and aesthetically pleasing. I was very glad once I had my final cheesecake image because it was the last thing I need for my page. It was one less wait on my shoulders. I really liked learning about a different form of speaking Spanish through se impersonal because it broadened my Spanish vocabulary which is what both my parents and I really want for me. It's always good to have a skill as useful as speaking another language because it come in handy a lot more than you think. I truly believe I wouldn't change anything from my recipe page. I am proud of the work I created.
